The psychometric properties of Antonovsky's Sense of Coherence (SOC) Scale were examined. Subjects (N = 374) completed the SOC scale and a battery of theoretically relevant questionnaires. Principal-components analysis with a Varimax-Promax rotation produced a solution with 5 factors, which were further reduced to 1 factor, suggesting that the SOC scale is a unidimensional instrument. Antonovsky’s idea of coherence between life 2017-06-08 · Given that Antonovsky developed the SOC scale based on his salutogenic theory, we initiated the process described above by examining each of the SOC subscales (Meaningfulness, Comprehensiveness, and Manageability). If the data did not meet the various criteria that were set, we used the following approach. Sense of coherence (SOC) The 13-item SOC Scale (SOC-13) (Antonovsky, 1987) was used.

Description: The Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC) assesses how people view life and identifies how they use their resistance resources to maintain and develop their health. Antonovsky’s Sense of Coherence Scale: Cultural Validation of Soc Questionnaire and Socio-Demographic Patterns in an Italian Population Claudia Sardu 1 , Alessandra Mereu 1, * , Alessandra Sotgiu 1 , Laura Andrissi 1 , Maria Katarina Jacob- The alpha values in 127 studies using SOC-13 range from 0.70 to 0.92, and in 60 studies using a modified SOC scale range from 0.35 to 0.91. Test-retest correlation show stability and range from The total score ranges between 29 and 203, and a higher score reflects a stronger SOC (Antonovsky, 1987(Antonovsky, , 1993. The SOC is conceptualized by Antonovsky [ 16] and describes the adaptive capacity of a person as an individual view that recognizes the world as meaningful and predictable. The construct consists of the 3 components: comprehensibility, meaningfulness and manageability.

The SOC-L9 is a one dimensional measurement instrument. In contrast to the original 29-item version of Antonovsky [4] , it consists of only 9 items, which cover the three subcomponents (comprehensibility, manageability and significance) of sense of coherence. We have previously concluded that the use of the Antonovsky sense of coherence (SOC) scale was unable to document a predicted strong association between SOC and physical health. By way of statistical methods, numerous studies have investigated the validity, reliability and applicability of the SOC scale with positive results. However, this paper analyses whether the questions in the SOC scale Antonovsky viewed his work as primarily addressed to the fields of health psychology, behavioral medicine, and the sociology of health. It has been adopted as a term to describe contemporary approaches to nursing, [7] psychiatry, [8] integrative medicine, [9] and healthcare architecture.

Main positive psychological well-being construct measured: Meaning in life KEYWORDS: Antonovsky, sense of coherence scale, predictability, operationalization, physical health, comprehensibility, manageability, meaningfulness, Denmark INTRODUCTION The Sense of Coherence Scale developed by Aaron Antonovsky (1923–1994) was intended to measure the sense of coherence (SOC), which according to his idea, is of crucial and causal importance to health[1]. Study objective: The aim of this paper is to systematically review and analyse the validity and reliability of Antonovsky’s life orientation questionnaire/sense of coherence scale (SOC).Design: The Aim: The aim of this study was to test the homogeneity and construct validity of the Sense of Coherence 29-item scale (SOC-29) among older home-dwelling Norwegians. Methods: A postal questionnaire, consisting of background variables, five health-related questions, the SOC-29, and three other instruments measuring mental health, self-care ability, and risk for undernutrition, was sent to 6033 Antonovsky (1996) argues that the SOC scale is applicable to all fields of health care and a number of studies have looked at SOC in relation to diabetes.
